Wrapping Up 2018

Posted January 2, 2019 by Bluestocking Bookworm in Discussion, General / 5 Comments

Well, 2018 has officially ended and so it is time for me to take a look back at what I read, what I loved, and what my goals are in the new year for reading and my blog.

2018 in Review

I finished off the year having read 52 books, which is lower than some years but considering I only read one comic book, it was a pretty good year!

This year I really enjoyed exploring novellas, reading more diversely, and reading different styles of books including novels in verse.

Some books I really loved this year in no particular order:

  • River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey
  • Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston
  • Blood Water Paint by Joy McCullough
  • The Black Tides of Heaven by J.Y. Yang
  • The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
  • Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand
  • These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch
  • This Mortal Coil (reread) and This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada
  • Strangers and Monsters by David Alexander Robertson
  • Kill the Farm Boy by Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne
  • A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
  • The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell

I bought somewhere around 330 ebooks in 2018, which is WAY too many. Now with Kal’s spiffy spreadsheet and some self-control tools, I am hoping to cut my ebook spending to a maximum of $20 a month.

Reading Goals for 2019

I want to continue on my path of reading 50 books for the year in 2019. I want to read more of what I own, especially on my e-reader. I want to read more outside of the YA scope, and read more of what sings to me instead of what I am “expected” to read.

While browsing my ereader, I have a TON of books I am excited to read that I just haven’t got around to yet, so I am super excited to focus on those. These range from 2018 releases to books from the 90’s that were recently put out in ebook.

Blog goals for 2019

I really hope to write more reviews and take more photos in 2019. I am going to be getting a new phone soon, likely a Pixel since they have awesome cameras – so that will help.

I also want to do more blog hopping and commenting back. So feel free to grump at me about that!

My top 3 books (series) for 2018 were Want by Cindy Pon, The Worldwalker Trilogy by Josephine Angelini, and The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One by Amanda Lovelace.

Goals for 2019: continue reading what I own, try to keep trying to read more books than comics (failed since high school), be honest in my Goodreads ratings, and DNF and unhaul what I don’t want to read. Also post more on Social Media cuz I’ve moved away from it simply due to laziness, not life being busy.
